The Official
Book Launch of T.R.’s Adventures at Angus the Wheeler’s, a
children's book written by Frank Macdonald and illustrated by
Virginia McCoy, will take place at 1:00 p.m. Followed by a
reading room for children – facilitator Jim Mustard
Workshops and reading will take place during the day beginning
at 10:00 am and running until 5:00 pm. The official schedule
will be posted shortly.

“What’s a little boy from Mabou doing in Venice, Germany,and
Singapore?”. Once upon a time a little boy in Mabou dreamed of
seeing the great world outside and writing books about it. Of
course, it couldn’t happen. Or could it?

MacNeil - Where White Horses Gallop is a haunting tale of three
boys who leave their home of Beinn Barra to enlist in the
legendary Cape Breton Highlanders in the Second World War:
Effie Rankin -
A native Gaelic speaker originally from North Uist in the Outer
Hebrides of Scotland, is a long-time resident of Mabou, Cape
Breton, where she has steeped herself in the songs and
traditions of her adopted home.
Ashley Tingley
- Coldcase of Portree. (based on a true family story) is set in
May, 1912, in Portree, Inverness County, as the Tingley family
was going about its normal business. Summer was close at hand.
Hattie Tingley, age 6, was watching over her two-year-old
brother, Llewellyn, when suddenly the young boy disappeared
without a trace – never to be seen again.
Presenters
Peter Rankin -
Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He specializes in illustrating
the traditional way of life there. A fisherman as well as an
artist, in 2004 he illustrated Making Room, a children’s book by
Joanne Taylor that was published by Tundra Books, for which he
won the 2004 Lillian Shepherd Memorial Award for Excellence in
Illustration.
Kate Beaton -
Kate Beaton is a 26 year old artist from Mabou. She took an
interest in making comics while working in British Columbia and
for the past few years has been making a living as a cartoonist,
publishing her work online as well as in newspapers and
magazines including the National Post, Chronicle Herald,
Harper’s and The New Yorker. She lives in Halifax.
