September 24, 2007 Mabou, Nova Scotia - September 24, 2007: Strathspey Place Theatre in Mabou is set for a busy fall season. On Thursday, October 4th, The Piper's Ceilidh will once again take place on the John Morris Rankin Stage. The Celtic Colours Tribute to Willie Fraser has been sold out since about four weeks. There are still a limited number of tickets available for 'The New Tunemakers' on Wednesday, October 10 and 'Celtic Mass for the Sea' on October 13. The Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada will feature 'Don Juan' on October 27. On November 8, George Canyon and his band will take the stage. The following night, the theatre will rock to the sounds of Inverness County rock band, 'Silvergun' and opening act 'That Guy Dave' band from Port Hawkesbury and area. This year's Pipers Ceilidh, just prior to the opening of Celtic Colours Week, will feature pipers Ryan J. MacNeil (Port Hood), John MacLean (Washabuck and Halifax), Barry Shears (Glace Bay & Halifax, Kenneth MacKenzie (Mabou Mines), and Paul K. MacNeil (Iona). The pipers will be accompanied by Tracey Dares on Piano and Patrick Gillis (Beolach) on Guitar. The Tuesday, October 9 Celtic Colours Concert - sponsored by the Chestico Museum - "Close to the Floor: A Tribute to Willie Fraser" has been sold out for several weeks. Wednesday, October 10 Celtic Colours Concert "The New Tunemakers" will feature Lau, Ryan J. MacNeil, Colin Grant, Andrea Beaton, Patricia Murray, Troy MacGillivray, Sierra Noble, and Glenn Graham. Saturday afternoon, October 13, Celtic Mass for the Sea: Encore will see The Cape Breton Chorale, The Inverness County Singers, Scott Macmillan, Chris Stout and Catriona McKay and Mary Jane Lamond take the stage. This promises to be another exceptional Celtic Colours presentation and tickets are going very well. The Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada returns to Mabou on October 27; this time with the full length ballet "Don Juan". Igor Dobrovolskiy's lighthearted ballet set to the music of George Gershwin takes a witty and fresh look at the legend of one of history's most flamboyant characters. The audience will be delighted by the dazzling fusion of inventive sets, exquisite lighting and sparkling choreography. George Canyon will tour and perform at relatively smaller venues in Atlantic Canada in November. On Thursday, November 8, he will bring his band to Strathspey Place and the evening promises to be enjoyable. Tickets are going well for this show. Fans are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment. The very next night, Friday, November 9, Strathspey Place will present local band (Inverness and Halifax) Silvergun; along with opening act 'That Guy Dave'. Both these bands performed at the outdoor concert in Port Hawkesbury this past summer and were very well received. Based out of Halifax, Silvergun formed in the fall of 2006. They are a group of experienced and accomplished musicians with a broad style of musical influences. Their sound has been compared to the styles of Tom Petty, Ryan Adams and Sam Roberts. Members Jason MacIsaac (Guitars/Lead Vocals), Adam MacIsaac (Bass/Vocals), Shane Gyorfi (Drums/Vocals), and Mike Ryan (Keys/Guitars/Vocals) have played together since growing up in Inverness. Strathspey Place Manager, Linda Rankin, noted that the Fall will be busy, and will include something for everyone's taste. "Things tend to slow down musically in the area during the Fall and Winter, but our doors will be open and we look forward to greeting our regular patrons as well as new ones." Rankin continued, "I don't know if it's just me, but I find that in the summer, we tend to cater to family and friends who come home from away and in the process we miss out on a lot of the great entertainment that goes on, either because we are too tired, or there's just so much going on, we choose to stay home. The Fall is our time to make up for it - so come out and enjoy yourselves; you've earned it!" The Box Office phone number is (902)945-5300 and the website is www.strathspeyplace.com for further information on all the upcoming events at Strathspey Place. .....................................................................................................................................

June 2006 Strathspey Place Theatre manager, Linda Rankin of Mabou, will attend the Cape Cod Celtic Festival from June 22 - 25, representing various Inverness County and Victoria County organizations. Some readers will recall the success of the Strathspey Place late night showcase music suite at the 2005 East Coast Music Awards in Sydney. At that time, Strathspey Place invited a number of International Delegates to visit the suite to experience some Inverness County entertainment and hospitality. Some of these artists received invitations to perform at various festivals and events as a result of their showcase in the Strathspey Place Suite. One of the International Delegates who continues to be supportive of the talented artists who come from Cape Breton, Lew Taylor, invited Linda to attend the Cape Cod Celtic Festival of which he is Director. She then contacted various island organizations in order to bring their promotional material to the Festival’s cultural fair. Linda says, “We need to have a strong sense of cooperation and communication amongst the organizers of our events in order for us all to achieve a positive outcome. While it is important to attract people to the region, it is equally as important to present them with a variety of activities in order to extend their visit. They need choices and if we provide them with what they enjoy, they will return and they’ll bring more people with them. This is succeeding in other parts of the country; I’ve seen the positive economic impact of cross promotion first hand.” Strathspey Place Association has in place a Memorandum of Understanding between it and the Highland Village in Iona. The theatre and two other arts centres in Inverness County, Inverness County Centre for the Arts in Inverness and the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre in Judique, have also committed to working together. In addition to bringing these centres to Cape Cod with her, she will represent the Celtic Colours International Festival, and various other smaller organizations. “It has been said that I would be wearing many hats while attending the Festival,” remarked Linda, “I responded by saying I would only be wearing one hat, a Cape Breton hat.” She hopes that there will be more opportunities for the stakeholders of this region to promote one another.
